Scania Ecocruise

Scania Ecocruise is an optional cruise control that knows everything about economy driving, saving up to 4% fuel, depending on application and driving conditions.

Scania Ecocruise is designed to save fuel without any significant loss of overall performance. With the right combination of route, driving and specification, the fuel-saving potential is several percent.

The system helps the driver to get more consistent fuel performance, generally reducing the spread between drivers from around 35 to 20 percent. Driver intervention is possible at any time, e.g. via the accelerator or by changing gear manually.

Scania Ecocruise is available in combination with Scania Opticruise. The vehicle should also be specified with the Scania Retarder to take advantage of the downhill momentum feature.

Questions to ask

  • Are you interested in saving up to 4% fuel at time loss of less than 20 minutes per working day?

  • If you save around 0.3 litres per hill, can you as a driver accept that the truck reaches the crest without accelerating?

  • Are the hills on your regular routes steep enough to make the truck lose speed uphill?

  • Can cruise control be used extensively?

If your answer is YES, read more about Scania Ecocruise.

Saving fuel uphill...
Running on cruise control, the behaviour of avehicle with Scania Ecocruise will be familiar to any driver that masters economy driving.

  • While climbing a hill, full engine power is applied. With Scania Opticruise, gearchanging is adapted to maintain maximum speed within economical revs.

  • Near the crest, the system will notice when the hill starts to level out because the vehicle is capable of accelerating.

  • The vehicle then avoids acceleration until the crest has been passed (unless the speed has dropped more than 20 km/h during climbing).

Around 0.3 litres of fuel is saved on every hill because the vehicle does not accelerate across the crest. Some 3 seconds are lost in the process. The figures indicate potential savings for a 40-tonne European tractor/semitrailer combination.

...and coming down
Coming down to the bottom of a hill, Scania Ecocruise strives to maintain the downhill speed setting for a while to enter the next hill at higher speed, if possible.
