Scania Driver training

Scania’s driver training course was designed to meet the requirements of the new European Union directive on mandatory periodic training of professional drivers. But it delivers much more – as Sveaskog, the state-owned Swedish forestry management company, is discovering.

Sveaskog is a forestry management company with a focus on sustainability. But as a company transporting timber over more than 70 million kilometres every year, fuel economy and emissions can make a huge environmental impact. That’s why they turned to Scania to train their drivers in fuel-efficient driving.

Initial results indicate that trained drivers can reduce their fuel consumption by 9 percent, which is a considerable cost reduction for any company. For Sveaskog, that translates into more than 3 million litres of diesel and over 8,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. Anders Järlesjö, Head of Logistics at Sveaskog, said: "The hauliers we rely on are deeply concerned with the climate change issue, and consequently this driver training course has been very highly received."
