Young European Truck Driver 2010
Young European Truck Driver 2010: Scania launches driver competition in Ireland
Skilled young Irish truck drivers have the opportunity to compete for the prestigious European title.
Scania is once again on the search for Ireland’s best young truck driver as it launches its Young European Truck Driver competition today. Thousands of young truck drivers across Ireland will have the opportunity to enter the competition and the potential to go on to represent us at the prestigious European Final in Sweden.
Young European Truck Driver 2010 (YETD 2010) is part of the Scania Driver Competitions which will take place in 28 countries around the world and is anticipated to attract over 45,000 entrants in 2010, making it one of the largest competitions of its kind.
Spotlight on the drivers
YETD 2010 will once again put the spotlight on Irish drivers by celebrating their skills and professionalism and highlighting their vital role in society.
“We believe that the driver is the single most important factor for economy, environment and safety. Skilled and committed drivers will deliver energy efficient transport, reduce emissions and contribute towards safer roads,” says Joe Crann, Sales Director, Westward Scania.
Scania is now looking for young Irish truck drivers (under 35 years) who have the skills and determination to meet the challenges of the competition. As well as exceptional driving skills, they must have a positive attitude, road safety awareness, stamina and professional pride. Only drivers with these qualities will succeed through the theoretical stage to make it to the Irish national final taking place in July 2010.
The winner will go on to represent Ireland in the European Final at the Scania head office in Sweden in October 2010.
Brand new truck at stake
At the European Final, each national winner will compete against 18 other national finalists from all Europe, with the chance to be crowned Young European Truck Driver 2010 and to win a brand new customised Scania truck.
This year the competition is sponsored by Michelin and once again endorsed by the European Union and the International Road Transport Union (IRU). With this support Scania aims to raise awareness of some of the key issues affecting the European transportation sector. “It is a critical time for the Irish transport industry in light of the current economic situation, rising fuel costs, increasingly dangerous driving conditions and ongoing environmental concerns,” says Joe Crann, Westward Scania. “That is why YETD 2010 is firmly focussed on promoting road safety and economical driving.”
